The University may provide assistance to eligible students through its Student Loan Scheme.

The UWA Student Loan Scheme, including types of loan available, is currently under review and no further applications are being accepted. Should there be any changes to the Scheme and loan types, this information will be updated on this site.

Loan schemes

As well as short term loans available from the Student Guild, there are a number of loan types available to Australian and International students.

Australian students

Students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents can apply for one of these loans:

International students

Students who are classed as international students can apply for one of two types of loans:

Bond Assistance

The Department of Housing offers bond assistance and two weeks' rent in advance as an interest-free loan to help eligible* people receiving a low income obtain accommodation in the private rental market.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens or have permanent residency status. *Conditions apply.

Banks and other financial institutions may be able to discuss a student loan with you. Some of these are:

Financial difficulty

Various agencies offer advice and assistance if you find yourself in financial difficulty, or simply want some financial advice.

Study Support Fund 

Students at UWA studying a minimum of 12 credit points per semester, who are either an Australian citizen or the holder of a Permanent Resident Visa and having lived in Australia continuously for at least 2 years prior to making application, may be eligible to apply for a grant of up to $1,500 from the Study Support Fund.  Further information is available via our website.
